Advocating for the Arts
IPOW's policy, research and advocacy work — building evidence and influence to position creativity as essential social infrastructure.
Making the case for the arts through academic partnerships, In Place of War works with universities across the globe to develop research and action projects with impact. This forms part of a wider strategy to contribute to addressing critical challenges in society.
Drawing on the strengths of academic research rooted in practice, and informed by observations of challenges, gaps, and opportunities on the ground, In Place of War has developed over 20 research projects with leading universities. The aim is to contribute to the generation of knowledge and practice that supports innovation in arts-based policy and practice. We are committed to disseminating our research and practice insights to support wider sector learning.
In Place of War has undertaken a number of transdisciplinary research projects, collaborating with academics across the natural sciences, medicine, the arts, and the social sciences. These include projects exploring the role of grassroots arts in peacebuilding, community theatre and disability, arts-based climate and health literacy, and reimagining arts education to develop intercultural competencies.
